Yesterday, I was in the OR all day, so I knew I needed a big breakfast to keep me going.
Even though it’s freezing and snowing in Minnesota, I have been LOVING smoothies lately.
Smoothies have tons of benefits. They are:
- Easy to make
- Packed full of tons of fruits and veggies
- Easy to take on the go
- Easy to store for later
One of my favorite smoothies is a green smoothie with kale, spinach, bananas, apple juice, lemon, and ginger. I pick this up from my favorite local co-op on the weekends 🙂
In the past few weeks of having smoothies nearly every day, I have come up with several recipes that I think would be perfect for healthcare providers. I will share them with you here, starting with one of my favorites:
The Surgeon’s Smoothie.
This smoothie is ultra filling, so you won’t go hungry in the OR. The kale and blueberries provide tons of antioxidants and minerals, while the chia seeds provide healthy omega-3’s, the avocado and coconut oil provide healthy fats, and the dates make it sweet and energizing.
I hope you try this one out! Stay tuned for the “medical student smoothie” and the “post-call smoothie” 🙂
Do you like smoothies in the winter? Or only in the summer?
