Hi friends! Did you guys catch my youtube video yesterday? Let me know what you think!
Merry Christmas! I hope you all had a fantastic holiday. Kyle and I returned from Naples, Florida on Sunday, after spending 4 days with my dad and grandma.
Last Tuesday, we dropped off Finnegan with Kim, the most wonderful lady we met through rover.com (a website for dog-sitters). We were so sad to say goodbye to our little puppy, but knew he would be in great hands. We came home and did some last minute packing, and then had a brief 4 hours of sleep before waking up to drive to the airport.
By 10 am we were in sunny Naples, Florida! Actually, our first day there wasn’t really that sunny. It was cloudy and kind of chilly! We planned to sit in the hot-tub to at least enjoy some outside air while staying warm, but the hot tub at the hotel was broken! Sigh…
At least we still had beautiful views and a lovely hotel to relax and start our vacation.
My grandma met us at the hotel and got us all settled in before she took off and left us to relax for the rest of the day. The hotel (the Naples Grande) was decorated beautifully!
Wednesday night, I was craving sushi, but neither Kyle nor I wanted to leave the hotel. Luckily, we found a delivery service and before long, had sushi for me and pad thai for Kyle delivered right to our door!
By Thursday, the cloudy weather had dissipated and the we spent the day in the sun. Kyle and I lounged by the pool for a good part of the day (he napped and read while I studied).
Thursday night, we went over to my grandma’s house for dinner. She has lived in a condo in Naples for 30+ years. I have so many memories of visiting this condo. Kyle and I brought presents and a beautiful orchid we picked up in Naples.
On Friday, Kyle and I left Naples and drove to Sarasota. We made a pit-stop at Whole Foods for breakfast. I can’t turn down green juice, coffee, and the salad bar!
Once we arrived in Sarasota, it was beach time!!!
I tell you, NOTHING compares to the sand on siesta key. It is without a doubt, the most beautiful beach and has the best sand. I may be biased because I grew up there, but I think most people agree.
On Friday night, my dad, his girlfriend Linda, Kyle, and I made a traditional Christmas dinner. My dad brought out all the Christmas china (a tradition in our family) and we had a beautiful dinner together.
Saturday was another beach day. The weather was spectacular. Sunny blue skies, with no clouds, and a slight breeze.
I made sure to go for a run outside both days in Sarasota.
Saturday night, my dad, Linda, Kyle, and I went to the Siesta Key Chapel for the candle light Christmas ceremony. My dad and I have gone to this ceremony many times in the past, and this was Kyle’s 3rd time. We opted to go to the early ceremony which featured all the kids, instead of the later communion ceremony. I am SO glad we chose the early ceremony! All the kids were dressed as angels and shepherds, and they were adorable. Older kids did all the readings, and one older girl (maybe 15 or so?) sang several songs and she was incredible!
The service always ends with everyone lighting a small candle, and walking outside singing Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Silent Night, and Joy to the World. It was just beautiful!
After church we came home and had dinner and opened presents. It was a perfect Florida Christmas Eve!
On Christmas day, Kyle and I packed up and headed to the airport, back to snowy (actually, freezing rain) Minnesota. The only exciting thing about returning to Minnesota was picking up Finnegan!
Once our family was reunited and we were home, we went to bed early, thankful for a wonderful holiday together 🙂
I hope you had a joyful holiday! Did you travel at all?
