There are 29 oculoplastic fellowship positions available and I applied to all of them (why not?) I don’t think I will get 29 interview invitations, but hopefully I get several! Since I have to use my own vacation time to go on interviews (we only get 3 days) I have to be pretty stingy about my vacation time. Even though I can’t take a ton of days off, I didn’t hesitate to request the day after Thanksgiving off so that Kyle and I could go home to Indiana for the weekend.
I was on call all day Wednesday and Wednesday night, so we decided to play it by ear for when to leave. Kyle and I really like to drive through the night because there is no traffic and we can take turns driving while the other person sleeps. We got up at 2 am, packed the car, and got ready. At 3 am, I hadn’t heard anything brewing in the ED, so I figured we had a green light to leave. Luckily, those early morning hours are generally pretty quiet, and I didn’t get any calls after we had left… phew!
This was our first time traveling with Finnegan, and we didn’t know what to expect! I have a hatchback car, so we were able to put one of the back seats down and put Finnegan’s crate there. I sat next to him in the back seat and he slept most of the trip! Success!!
We arrived in Indiana at 1 pm, cleaned up, and headed to our first of 3 Thanksgiving celebrations. This was our biggest family function, and I’m not sure what we were thinking, but we decided to bring Finnegan. He went crazy meeting all those new people! Our sweet little cousins took him outside and played with him for a long time.
That was the most excitement he’s ever had! Our little pup slept the rest of the day after that 🙂 Here he is collapsed on the bathroom floor, sound asleep:
Later in the evening, Kyle got violently ill. I think he had food poisoning because it hit him so fast and he was really sick. I was exhausted from the week and felt a little ill myself, so we both went to bed at 7pm. Pitiful!
On Friday, we both woke up feeling revitalized. We took Finnegan for a long walk in our beautiful little town.
He loved playing in the leaves.
After our walk, we took Finn over to Kyle’s parents house to meet their dog Roxy. She didn’t know what to think of him! Eventually, they warmed up to each other and played.
That afternoon, we headed home to my parents for Thanksgiving #2.
My grandma is 100 years old (!) and came over for an early afternoon celebration.
Finnegan even joined us for dinner! My mom got him a nice dog stick/treat to chew on- already spoiling her granddog!
We were stuffed after that dinner and went to bed super early yet again! There really is nothing better than going to bed early and getting tons of great rest.
On Saturday, we went to Kyle’s sister’s house for Thanksgiving #3. Does anyone else have multiple celebrations over the course of a few days? I just love it 🙂
I hope you had a joyous weekend with loved ones!!
