Six months ago, I put this blog on hold. I made a gigantic decision to apply for fellowship in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery aka oculoplastics. Deciding to apply for fellowship meant I needed to focus on completing research projects, study for my plastics rotations, and dedicate 100% of my extra time to residency.
And now… six months later, I have submitted my fellowship application and I’m ready to get back to the blog and YouTube. Wahoo!!! Thank you to all of you who have stuck by me on Instagram while I took this little hiatus.
I will be posting all about my fellowship application and decision to pursue a career in oculoplastics.
For now, I just wanted to check in and say hello, and update you all with everything that has happened since May!
Here’s a little overview:
Kyle and I spent the summer in our vegetable garden. I posted about starting our garden here, but never followed up except for pictures on Instagram.
We grew tons of tomatoes, zucchini, lettuce, peas, green beans, herbs, lavender, and peppers. It took a lot of work, but was so worth it.
I took a summer trip to San Fran and Napa with all my best girlfriends to celebrate my BFF from college Ashlee’s bachelorette party.
I went to Williamsburg, Virginia for the Women in Ophthalmology conference and presented my research.
Kyle’s sister Whitney got married!
I got accepted onto the Board of Directors for the Minnesota Academy of Ophthalmology and started to attend board meetings.
My friend Ashlee from college got married in Seattle! (dress from Rent the Runway. If you want $30 off an order, let me know and I will send you a promo code!)
Isn’t she the most beautiful bride??
The American Academy of Ophthalmology had it’s annual meeting and I had a blast meeting new people and learning so much about my incredible field.
Snapshot from twitter! So much social media talk at the conference 🙂
I presented an unusual case to a giant sized room with a panel of experts (only slightly nervous about that!)
And finally, to round out this incredibly eventful summer and fall….
Kyle and I got a puppy!! Meet Finnegan! I will be posting tons about him in the future- don’t worry 😉
If you follow me on Instagram, you probably know these things already, so sorry for the repetition. If you don’t follow me on IG, you are caught up now!
A lot of people have been asking about Skype sessions. Those will be back shortly! Still finishing up research projects and I don’t want to get too behind with blogging and YouTubing.
So tell me what’s new with you!? What have I missed in these past 6 months? How was your summer? How was your fall? Are you ready for Thanksgiving?
