This week has been extra fantastic. For one, I’m in the eye clinic and I’m getting to see patients on my own and learn all kinds of things. For example, this can happen if you gaze at the sun too long, or if you get a laser pointer in your eye:
That’s called solar retinopathy and you can see the effect it has to the part of the retina responsible for your central vision, called your fovea.
Secondly, the ophtho residents know that it’s my last month as an intern and in just a few weeks I will start first year of ophtho residency which is a really hard year. So, since they are so kind, they are all encouraging me to go home early, enjoy life, and get things done like going to the dentist, etc.
So besides trying to enjoy my last few weeks of freedom, I’ve gotten in some nice workouts this week!
HIIT workouts have quickly become a real favorite of mine, and this week I’ve done 3 different 10 minute HIIT routines. I really like picking 2-4 different exercises to alternate for 10 minutes. Some of the exercises I did this week include:
Plank Shoulder Taps (P.S. The gorgeous girl in this photo from Shape.com went to my dance studio and was my total idol when I was younger. She was probably 5-6 years older and now she’s a fitness celebrity!)
Medicine Ball Twists
Everyone knows what these look like right?
Same as above 🙂
On Wednesday I left work early and went for a 15 mile bike ride! It was beautiful outside and the ride felt so so good.
I wore my heart rate monitor just to see how much my heart rate got up during the ride and I was pleasantly surprised!
Not too shabby right?
On Friday it rained and rained and rained so I stuck to my treadmill. I did 5 miles while watching Masterchef.
I have been LOVING Masterchef and watching it makes me want to cook so much more! My mom told me that she read somewhere that people who watch cooking shows are on average 10 lbs heavier than those who don’t… isn’t that so funny? I really don’t care- I love my cooking shows and I’ll take a few extra pounds 🙂
On Saturday I did a quick 2 mile run and 10 minutes of walking on the treadmill with dumbbells. I love doing 1 minute arm exercises while I’m on the treadmill because I break it up into 1 exercise per minute for 10 minutes and by the end my arms are burning! Later in the day, Kyle and I played tennis 🙂
What workouts have you done this week?
