Well I haven’t done a Friday Favorite post in FOREVER. Sorry guys! But today, I am alive and ready to share so many fun things with you. Let’s start with this weeks workouts starting with the weekend:
- Saturday- 5 mile run outside
- Sunday- 15 mile bike ride with Kyle
- Monday- Quick 20 min run in the morning
- Tuesday- OFF
- Wednesday- 10 min HIIT- burpees with push-ups and ab 100’s
- Thursday- Quick 2 mile run and some yoga at home
- Friday- TBD
Over the weekend last weekend, I did a 5 mile run outside on Saturday and a 15 mile bike ride with Kyle on Sunday. We have been so into playing tennis and riding our bikes, so I know that will happen this weekend.
Now let’s move on to the best things from this week:
Oh summer, I love you. The weather here has been so lovely and I’ve been enjoying it as much as I can. Last weekend, my dad and his girlfriend Linda came to visit, so we did a few tours around Rochester and Mayo. We stopped at Assisi Heights, a beautiful convent up on a hill overlooking Rochester. While we were walking around, soaking up the sunshine, we saw two HUGE turkeys trotting down the lawn!
I couldn’t believe it! I’ve never seen turkeys out in the wild.
We had such a fun time playing around Mayo- here we are replicating Sister Alfred and Dr. Mayo:
And here is the whole group: (I had just gotten off work, hence the suit)
2. Wild animals
The wild turkeys above go along with this favorite thing. We have so much wildlife where we live! Beautiful birds, turtles, geese, and bunnies! I see multiple bunnies every time I go out for a run and they are just so stinking cute.
I especially love it when they hop away and you can see their puffy white tails. Go bunny go!
3. The Farmer’s Market
We have an awesome Farmer’s Market here in Rochester every Saturday, and Kyle and I haven’t missed a Saturday in 4 weeks. I’ve been stocking up on lettuce, beets, asparagus, little red skin potatoes, broccoli, flowers, strawberries…basically everything they sell. It just doesn’t get any better.
4. Mary’s Gone Crackers
Have you guys tried these? They were on sale so I bought them on a whim and yum!
I dipped them in avocado with a little sea salt and it was the perfect snack.
5. Ophthalmology starting
Holy smokes, ophtho starts on Wednesday. I have wanted to be an ophthalmologist since I was 16 years old and in less than a week, it will happen. The amount of nervous excitement I am feeling is indescribable. We got our textbooks- 13 books that cover everything and we’re supposed to get through them once each year. Better start reading now!
Being in the ophtho clinic this month has really helped me get my feet wet and get comfortable with how the clinic works. I’m starting to be less of a klutz with the slit lamp and I’m starting to see things that I couldn’t appreciate before this month. I’m really good at seeing Weiss rings now and I didn’t even know what that was a month ago!
See the clear thing floating above the retina? That’s it!
And now that the weekend is commencing, I have plans to go to the Farmer’s market, get my hair done, go on bike rides, play tennis, sleep, cook, and be happy. Life is good people!
What are your favorite things this week?
P.S. I wrote this post about starting third year and my new responsibility as a medical student 3 years ago. I just read it again and it brought back so many memories of seeing patients for the first time in medical school. I’ve come such a long way from that but honestly I still feel just as excited as I did then. Check it out 🙂
