Blue Apron Vs. Hello Fresh Review
Hi guys! Holy moly I am behind at life. 3 weekends ago, I went home to visit my girlfriends and my mom for the week. 2 weekends ago, my mom came up to Rochester to visit, and last weekend, my dad and his girlfriend came to Rochester to visit. It has been the best month so far!! But, with all that great family time I haven’t been tending to the blog much and I definitely haven’t been tending to emails…. sorry!!
With ophthalmology residency getting ready to start (in less than a week eeeekkkk!) I’m getting life back together. That means organization, schedules, lists, ahhhh- it just feels so good!
But before I blog about anything else, I have to tell you guys about the Blue Apron meals Kyle and I tried 2 weeks ago. 3 weeks ago, my mom and I tried the Hello Fresh food delivery service and I blogged about it then. The next week, my Aunt Vikki sent Kyle and me a week of Blue Apron to try out. Since I got to try the two services back to back, I thought I would do a little review of both of them in case anyone was trying to decide between the two.
Both Hello Fresh and Blue Apron came with three meals for 2 people. They both came in a big box with all the ingredients needed to make each recipe. With Hello Fresh, my mom and I made all 3 meals all at once so that we could have a smorgasbord and try everything.
With the Blue Apron meals, we spread them out over 3 days and made a different meal each night.
Both boxes came with a chicken dish, a salmon dish, and a veggie dish which I thought was kind of interesting. My mom and I put them head to head and compared each meal.
For the veggie dish, Hello Fresh had a veggie quesadilla with lime crema.
Blue Apron had kale, ricotta, and mozzarella calzones with homemade marinara sauce.
The winner of the veggie dish? BLUE APRON
The chicken dish from Hello Fresh was chicken breast wrapped in prosciutto with spinach and cherry tomatoes in a shallot pan sauce.
The chicken dish from Blue Apron was Chicken Piccata with homemade linguini pasta.
The winner of the chicken dish? BLUE APRON
The salmon dish from Hello Fresh was salmon fillets with a watercress salad and a cucumber honeydew salsa.
The salmon dish from Blue Apron was homemade salmon burgers and homemade potato salad (we added our own green salad on the side).
I really LOVED the salmon burgers, but the winner of the salmon dish was: HELLO FRESH
Both services are very similar in packaging and the time to make each meal was comparable between services. Blue Apron is less expensive, so I think it wins in that department.
After experiencing both Hello Fresh and Blue Apron, I think I would order Blue Apron again but probably not Hello Fresh even though the meals were still great.
What do you think of these delivery services? Have you tried one yet?
