Happy Friday Friends! I am cleaning my house and getting ready this morning because my dad and his girlfriend Linda are coming to stay the weekend with us! He’s never been to Rochester so I’m super excited to show him around. Since I’m running around and not blogging today, I thought it would be funny to take a look back and see what I posted about on this very day in 2012- right after I started the blog.
Blogs are fantastic for so many reasons, but I love being able to look back and see what I’ve written and how I was feeling during different times in my life.
It’s so funny to me to see how strict I was back in medical school! I was a studying/healthy eating/working out machine! I’m so much more relaxed now. Give me the ice cream and couch!
You can check out the post here, but I’ll also copy it below if you don’t want to navigate to another page.
Do you like to look back at your old blog posts? What do you notice about yourself?
June 19, 2012
I know everyone hates Mondays, but for some reason I love them. I always feel like my life falls apart over the weekends- my workouts are random (if I even make it to the gym), my eating is often a little too indulgent, and my daily routine is non-existent. I blame part of this on the fact that Kyle and I are in a long distance relationship, and so when I see him, I want to put everything else on hold in order to spend time with him. Come Monday, I finally feel like I’m back on track again- everything is organized and I feel better 🙂 I know I’m a weirdo..
Yesterday morning I was up and at the gym at 5. I did 40 minutes on the elliptical like this:
Yes, that’s a book I’m studying while I shuffle away on the elliptical. I was planning on going to cycling yesterday morning, but I felt like I didn’t study enough this weekend and so I thought I should spend some quality time with a review book during my workout.
After I was thoroughly bored with the elliptical (how do people stay on that thing for an hour???) I finished up with 10 minutes on an incline on the treadmill. Solid 50 minutes of cardio. Then I did some abs! I stole the concept for this abs routine from my friend Vanessa in college and it’s never let me down:
Minutes 0-2 hold a boat position
3-4 flutter kicks
4-5 leg raises (you can put your hands under your butt if it helps)
5-6 regular crunchs
7-8 plank for 50 seconds, rest 10 seconds
8-9 plank for 50 seconds, rest 10 seconds
9-10 plank for 50 seconds, rest 10 seconds
10-11 plank for 50 seconds, rest 10 seconds
After I came home and got ready, I was a little pressed for time. Luckily, I had made some overnight oats the night before. I ate them up in a mug, with a handful of blueberries on top while I was driving to the hospital.
New Recipe! This is what I had for lunch:
I’ve never made salmon cakes before, but there’s a first time for everything! I bought a can of wild salmon a couple of weeks ago and have been nervous to use it. Salmon cakes seemed to be the easiest recipe to try for a canned salmon first-timer.
1 can salmon
1/2 cup oats
1/4 cup chopped onion
2 stalks celery chopped
Handful chopped scallions
Salt and Pepper
Mix all ingredients together. Form into a patty. Cook in a pan sprayed with non-stick spray until brown on both sides.
After a great day at the hospital I came home, scarfed down another protein pancake (my obsession) and did some school work. I finished the night off with a total body strength routine I will post later.
Have a great day everyone!!!
