First, go enter the Acure giveaway from yesterday! It will be open until next week!
Medicine is kicking my butt you guys. I just can’t get anything else done when I’m working! I get up at 4:45 and by the time I get my coffee and check my phone, it’s 5. Then I get ready until 5:30. Then I pack my breakfast and lunch, have a little bite to eat if I’m hungry, and leave the house by 5:45. I really want to get up earlier to study or workout (how did I do that while I was in medical school?!??!) but I am always so tired and there is no way I’m sacrificing sleep.
Nights on call really mess with my sleeping and I can’t seem to feel rested for a few days after staying up all night. I actually tried to get some sleep while I was on call last week, but alas, I just lie there awake until my pager goes off.
I know I am such a baby and totally not cut out for this. Bless all your surgeons, EM docs, and all other health care professionals who can survive with little sleep and work night shifts. I love you.
Yesterday I was able to convince myself to do a 30 minute workout- 20 minutes on the treadmill (10 minutes running on a flat surface and 10 minutes running the same pace but at 5% incline) and then some pushups and abs on the stability ball. I am loving this move but with a push-up in between:
Before I run off to work I wanted to share with you a quick but super tasty and easy meal I made last week.
Red Potato, Brussel’s Sprouts, Green Bean, and Bacon Hash
This is great all by itself, as a side dish, or as Kyle and I like it- scrambled into some eggs!
Start by boiling your potatoes until soft, then cut up into small pieces and place on a roasting pan with Brussel’s sprouts. Cover with about 2 TBS olive oil, salt, pepper, and 1/2 TBS garlic powder. Roast for 1-5 20 minutes on 400F, stirring occasionally, or until veggies are toasty brown.
Cook up some bacon in a pan or in the oven.
Pour off the bacon grease, but leave all the brown bits in the pan.
Boil green beans in water (or steam) until just soft- about 5-7 minutes. Then, sauté them in the bacon pan. Soak up all that flavor!
Crumble bacon on top of your veggies and give everything a good mix.
There you go!
Hope you guys have a terrific Saturday!
