Well I have been gone from the blog for WAY too long! Sorry about that! Last week, I took a 4 trip to Seattle to visit one of my best friends Ashlee. She has lived there for almost 2 years and I haven’t been able to visit until now. I actually wasn’t expecting to get any time off this month, but I was able to request all 4 of my “pager free” days in a row, and luckily, it was accepted!
******Get ready for picture overload!! (mainly pictures of food because we are SO much this weekend!!)
On Saturday morning, I left bright and early, (around 4 am) to get to the airport in Minneapolis. By 9 am I was in Seattle and reunited with Ashlee and her boyfriend Brian! Our first stop was Portage Bay Cafe for brunch (and mimosas).
They had a huge buffet bar full of berries and cream to top any pancake or french toast dish, but we all confessed we were craving eggs, so we skipped the sweet items on the menu and dug into some scrambles and omelets!
After an incredible, and HUGE meal, we drove to one of Ashlee’s favorite hiking spots called Rattlesnake. It rained the entire time we hiked and it was freezing cold, but we still had a great time trekking to the top. Even though it was cloudy, the view was still breathtaking.
Ashlee and Brian:
After hiking, we were all soaking wet and muddy, so we went home to shower and warm up. Before too long, it was time for dinner so we drove to a cute little area of Seattle called Ballard and stopped for Sushi.
The restaurant had a gorgeous tree right in the middle of the dining area that lit up with little white lights- stunning!!
Brian got sashimi and Ashlee and I split 2 rolls and 2 pieces of nigiri. The seafood was so fresh it melted in your mouth!! Yummmmm.
After dinner we found a bar to watch the Butler game. Sadly, they lost to Notre Dame, but they played a good game. To end the night, we stopped for Gelato. I got half biscotti flavor and half chocolate hazelnut which tasted just like Nutella. SO GOOD!
Sunday morning, Ashlee and I left to go explore Green Lake. This is a beautiful little area in Seattle with a big lake and lots of gorgeous trees and flowers. We grabbed some coffees and leisurely walked around the lake while chatting and catching up on everything in each others lives. It was so good to just have time for girl talk!
We knew we wanted to cook dinner that night, so we went to Pike Place Market to shop around and get ingredients for dinner. I had been to the market once before when I went to Seattle for an ophthalmology conference, but this time was even better. We browsed around and looked at all the gorgeous seafood, produce, and flowers.
We stopped for samples and did a little shopping around the market area. I picked up a Patagonia zip-up for 50% off and couldn’t pass it up!! (This is the one I got)
After we bought veggies for dinner as well as our main dish- clams, I stopped at a bakery to buy macarons for dessert while Ashlee waited in line for Piroshki’s. Apparently, piroshki’s are a Seattle favorite. They are made of dough, filled with lots of different sweet or savory fillings, and then baked or fried. Ashlee said the salmon piroshki’s were to die for and we had to try them.
We waited in like for about 25 minutes and were worried when it looked like all the salmon ones were gone right when we got to the front of the line. But luckily, they took out a huge tray of salmon from the oven and so we got fresh ones!
Could this picture be any more Seattle? I’m wet with rain, holding a Patagonia bag and a piroshki plus some coffee while I’m at the market. Love it.
I think I’m going to have to split this post into two, because we just
ate so much did so much! Stay tuned for Seattle part 2 tomorrow!
Have you been to Seattle? What was your favorite part?
