I have a few things to share with you today! I have a new article on Accepted.com all about what to wear to medical school interviews, which you can check out here. Accepted.com is an incredible website full of resources for anyone applying to not only medical school, but business school, dental school, and all kinds of other professional institutions.
I was lucky enough to get to do a podcast with Linda Abraham, the founder of Accepted.com as part of the “Admissions Straight Talk” podcast. You can listen to that here. There is also a little overview of the podcast:
It’s not easy being a med school applicant. Or a med student. Or a resident. Meet a woman who manages to pull it off in style.
Andrea Tooley is an Ophthalmology resident at the Mayo Clinic, avid blogger and youtuber, and a fitness and nutrition buff. And she sleeps.
Want some inspiration? Listen to the recording of our great conversation with Andrea and find out the secret of her med school success.

Yesterday I slept in while Kyle got up and went to work- such a nice role reversal there!
After lounging around, I made breakfast with eggs, seitan, veggies, and toast with honey (I ate the other half of the toast before I snapped the picture).
Then I did some work online and got myself cleared up before leaving the house. I had a few errands to run before going to the hospital for noon conference. After conference I took the little shuttle bus downtown so that I could meet my research advisor and go over my IRB proposal. I WILL submit that thing before the end of the month! It has become one of those tasks that is looming over me all the time but I always put it off- so I will finish it!
I had one other meeting with my academic advisor to sign some paperwork for my medical license, and then I drove home. I didn’t realize how late it had gotten but it was suddenly 3 pm and I hadn’t had lunch!! I was starving by the time I arrived home, so I wasted no time and threw together a plate of turkey, cheese, crackers, lettuce, pear, and basil mayo for dipping 🙂
For the next few hours I relaxed at home, read a little, and cleaned the kitchen. The day went by way too quickly yesterday because in no time at all, it was 6 pm and time to get ready for tennis class!
Yesterday was our 4th class, and then entire session is 5 weeks, which means that next week is my last class. After that I will have completed 3 5-week sessions. The sessions keep going so I will just sign up for another 5 weeks and start again.
When I got home from tennis, Kyle was excited to tell me about this ice cream place call Flapdoodles he heard about at work. Appartenly they have amazing homemade ice cream, so we jointly decided that we had to try it.
Kyle got “cookie monster” which was blue ice cream with cookie dough and Oreos, and a chocolate malt ball flavor as well.
Once I saw how big Kyle’s normal sized scoops were, I ordered 2 mini sized scoops so that I could still try 2 flavors without a stomach ache. I got oatmeal cookie, which was a cinnamon and brown sugar ice cream with oatmeal cookie chunks, and coffee ice cream. Kyle and I both thought they tasted even better mixed together!
I should probably lay off the sugar for a while- it’s starting to be a recurring theme. Can I blame Kyle? Husbands are such bad influences!!
Hope you all have a lovely day today!
