Recently, several things have really motivated me to study.
The biggest one is this group right here:
This is my GI team and let me tell you- they are so smart. I mentioned in another post how my GI consultant motivated me to go home and read because he was so knowledgable. We switched consultants at the end of last week, and so I had my feedback session with the first consultant. His biggest advice to me was to set aside at least 30 minutes a day to study. He told me it’s what made a difference for him in fellowship.
(This is the whole team out to lunch last week 🙂 )
I was doing well with setting time aside to study toward the beginning of the year, but over the past few months I have stopped studying as much. I really want to get through some ophtho material before I start ophthalmology in July, so I am going to commit to reading 30 minutes of ophtho each morning.
Motivation comes and goes in residency. There are days that are so exhausting and you cannot imagine spending more time reading. But then, there are days when I look out and see sunrises like this, and I think about the Mayo brothers and their commitment to medicine.
So this morning, I will be studying. I saw this quote on Instagram and it summarizes exactly how I want to be right now:
Do you have waves of motivation in school, work, fitness, or life?
What motivates you?
