Another Friday is here! Old Friday favorite posts can be found here:
Let’s get started! Here are the things I have been loving this week:
This week has been a sugar filled week and I don’t even feel bad about it. Every day, I bring my own breakfast and lunch to work which means that I always have those 2 healthy meals to get me through the work day (plus snacks!!) Since I know the majority of my meals are pretty healthy, I never feel bad about saying yes to dessert.
During the week, the residents have a conference every day at noon and Mayo provides lunch. I often snag some cookies or a piece of fruit to go along with whatever I packed that day. Lately, these gluten free cookies have been my go-to. I think they are the Udi brand and holy smokes they are good!!
A few days ago, my senior resident Sara brought in cupcakes for the other resident Stan’s birthday. I demolished this carrot cake cupcake. She got the cupcakes from the same bakery Kyle and I visited for donuts. Yum yum yum I love carrot cake.
As much as I love all things made with sugar, butter, and flour, sometimes I have had enough dessert for the day and so I opt for a coffee instead of something sweet. I drink plain black coffee 99% of the time, but for some reason I really felt like something different this week so I got a latte! The creamy milk really did make it seem like dessert 🙂
Chilean Lemon Plums
These beautiful plums caught my eye at the grocery store last weekend and I had to try them.
They are so sweet and juicy- if you see them at your grocery you should definitely put one in your shopping cart!
The End of the Month
Hallelujah today is my last day on GI. I have really enjoyed this rotation but I am so happy to have a month off from the hospital. I am on float in March which means I only work when I get called in to cover for someone. I cannot explain how much I am looking forward to more free time. I foresee a month full of studying, working out, cooking, blogging, reading, ahhhhh!!!!
As I was driving into work yesterday I thought about the end of the month and got so excited! I think I need a break.
Can I count Kyle as one of my favorite things this week? He is seriously the greatest.
I had a mini-breakdown a few days ago and he has been so wonderful, as usual. He has put up with me through undergrad, sobbing because I thought I wouldn’t get into medical school, SOOO many days of freaking out and hating medical school, sobbing about rotations during third year, and now all my residency stories and whining.
My mini breakdown likely had a lot to do with this:
They showed us this graph during orientation in July- that seems so long ago! I wouldn’t say my morale is low, but I have been struggling with my schedule lately. I really want to spend more time studying, and it’s hard to figure out how to fit that in. I am most productive in the morning by far, and I really want to get up early and study like I did in medical school, but it’s hard with Kyle because he doesn’t get home from work until later and so we go to bed later than I’d like. Since I go to bed later, I end up hitting snooze every morning and not getting up early enough to be productive. I also want to have time to workout, blog, and do fun things with friends and family, so I just feel discouraged. I feel like I get home at the end of the day and waste time lounging around doing nothing because I’m exhausted from being at the hospital for 12 hours. I’m still trying to figure out the best way to make my schedule work for me when I have to work 60+ hours a week, but it is hard.
I wouldn’t worry about it too much, but I know that next year is going to be way harder and way more time consuming. If I can’t handle this year, how in the world and I going to get through next year successfully? I know I can’t do everything all the time, but it’s hard because I feel like I could if I just organized my time better! I just want to be the best version of myself.
Okay, I’ll stop whining now. See what Kyle has to put up with?
This little sample came in last month’s Birchbox and I am so impressed by it’s ability to remove ALL my mascara no problem. It seems like no matter how much I wash my face, there is always some residual mascara. Well, not with this makeup remover! I pour a little onto a cotton round and press it into my eye for a few seconds, then I gently rub it off and voila! No more makeup on my eyes 🙂 Then I go about washing my face with my regular cleanser. Love it.
As soon as I run out I’m going to buy the full size for sure.
A few weeks ago, I bought these shoes on Hautelook and I have been loving them this week! Since I still have a nasty blister on my heel from cross country skiing, I’ve been able to step on the back heel of the left shoe so it doesn’t rub against my blister. That fact alone as made them my go-to shoes for the week. But they just reminded me how much I love Hautelook. These were only $30!
On most days I wear heels, but it is nice to have a few pairs of flats that still look nice with a suit. These are a win!
What are your favorite things today??
