I am sucking at this whole night schedule thing. Last week I did 3 nights in a row and thankfully I’m done with overnights for the rest of the month. I have LOTS of 4pm-1am shifts, but I can totally handle that. I don’t know how many more overnights I could take. My schedule gets thrown off so much! Last night I woke up at 12:30 and felt completely awake. My eyes couldn’t even stay closed. So instead of fighting it, I got up and did some emails and read my book… So annoying.
Anyways, yesterday was another glorious day off. I feel like I’m always blogging about my days off- they are so wonderful! I think yesterday had all the makings of what I need for a perfect day:
- Sleeping in
- Shopping (clothes and grocery)
- Some time outside
- A nice workout
- Hot shower
- Early bedtime
After lounging around the house for a while, I got all bundled up to go shopping. It was in the negatives all day yesterday- brrr!! My first stop was an outdoor/sporting clothes shop that’s super close to my house and sells everything you would ever need for any winter sport. I really want to get into cross country skiing, but I don’t have any clothes for it. My winter coat that I wear every day is long, and wouldn’t be good for skiing. I don’t have gloves that are waterproof, and I definitely don’t have pants that would hold up in the snow.
I thought I would check out the after the holidays sales and see if I could get anything for a good deal. Since I don’t know how much I’ll actually ski, I don’t want to invest a ton of money into a whole outfit.
Luckily, all the kids stuff was 25% off, so I went to see if I could fit into anything! It was my lucky day because I found Columbia pants and a jacket in a girls Large that fit me perfectly!
I ended up getting the jacket, pants, and 2 pairs of gloves- a liner and an outer glove, all for under $200.
After my shopping extravaganza, I headed to the grocery store. Kyle and I have been eating soup all week and we both were in the mood for something different. I found a recipe for a casserole (or as Minnesotans say: Hot Dish) that I wanted to try and healthify. It was a success! Recipe coming soon 🙂
By the time I had finished grocery shopping and cooking my hot dish (and photographing it- I’m really trying to be better with food photography!!) it was getting dark outside. I couldn’t let the sun set without trying out all my new gear, so I got bundled up in a pair of leggings, my Columbia pants, 2 thermal undershirts and my Columbia jacket, a fleece hood and face mask, socks and boots, and 2 pairs of gloves.
I wanted to see how long I could last outside before getting too cold. After walking all around the neighborhood and down to the little lake I ran around all summer, I still felt toasty warm! My face was wet from my hot breath inside the fleece face mask, but nothing felt cold! I spent about 25 minutes outside before calling it a night and coming in. Honestly just walking around and breathing the night air felt amazing. I’ve been cooped up inside for months and I can’t wait to spend more time outdoors this winter 🙂
After my walk I stripped off a few layers and got on my treadmill for 45 minutes.
It wasn’t too long until Kyle came home from work and it was time for bed.
Do you have outdoor winter gear? How do you stay warm outside in the winter?
