Is it really Thursday already? This week is going by so quickly! I have so many Christmas presents I need to get in the mail ASAP! Eek!!
I mentioned the other day that this month is my elective month. I did 2 weeks of Rheumatology for the first 2 weeks of December, and now I’m doing 2 weeks of Neuro-radiology.
I’m so grateful that it’s low-key. I’ve been getting out pretty early each day, and I even have time during the day to read some ophthalmology stuff.
Yesterday started out as usual- oatmeal with cocoa powder, frozen mixed berries, some coconut butter, and lots of almond milk on top. It looks so gross but I swear it’s good!
Then I was off to radiology. I basically just hang out with the resident and go over images with him. It’s kind of like medical school all over again, but I’m not complaining! I’ve actually gotten to see some pretty cool things. A few cases of orbital lymphoma, some pretty terrible brain tumors, Duane syndrome, and more. Basically you don’t want to see this in your brain:

Mid-morning I made a coffee run…
And got a few chocolates…
We stopped for lunch and went to Grand Rounds, a weekly formal lecture at Mayo for all of internal medicine (not just the residents). There are resident lectures every day at noon, but on Wednesday it’s Grand Rounds. This week one of my favorite consultants was talking about Ebola. Mayo has just been named an Ebola center, so should a patient with Ebola need care they could be sent here.
I packed a salad with tahini dressing, salmon, and some left-over sweet potato.
I know I told you guys how good that salmon from Costco is- and one of my nicest readers Christine tried it!
I spent the afternoon in the Radiology suite and left around 4. I was actually really hungry when I got home, and I didn’t know what to make, so I made a grilled cheese. You can never go wrong with grilled cheese right? I put a piece of salami in the middle (my impulse buy at the grocery last week) and it was only okay. I don’t think I’ll buy salami again any time soon. But the sandwich was still good!
The rest of my night consisted of a little treadmill, wrapping Christmas presents (Kyle was out of town so I had to wrap all of his) and watching Veronica Mars- my new favorite show on Amazon. Since I don’t have cable, I go through series on Amazon like crazy 🙂
And that’s it!!
What’s “just another day” for you like?
