My schedule this month goes like this:
– Work a long day (6am-7pm)
– Work a long day (6am-7pm)
– Work a short day (6am-?? sometimes as early as 3, sometimes until 5 or 6)
– Day off
– Night shift- 6pm-10am
– Post call day off
It’s a 6 day schedule that repeats over and over. It doesn’t sound that bad, but I swear- I feel like it is life consuming! I was so tired this past week so on my day off I did literally nothing. Well, I did make pumpkin pancakes- but they turned out more like pumpkin scramble. I managed to get about 2 salvageable pancakes and the rest were a mess. Don’t you hate it when that happens?
Don’t worry- I still ate them and they were still delicious 🙂
On my pre-call and post call day, I pretty much slept all day.
I woke up, had breakfast, and went back to bed a few hours later. For the first time in over a week, I felt like a savory breakfast, so I heated up some left over chicken and broccoli, and had a piece of toast with avocado on the side.
I managed to get a tiny bit of work/studying done before napping.
Then it was off to the hospital for the night! I packed a bunch of good food- starting with a smoothie with some new vegan protein powder I picked up at Costco. It caught my eye and I happen to be out of protein powder, so I thought I would give it a try.
Normally, I don’t love plant base protein powders- they are just all so grainy to me! But, this one is pretty darn good!! And it has great nutrition facts to go with it, so that’s a bonus.
I put it in a coffee mug to keep it cold and brought it to work with me.
Later on in the night it was time for actual dinner, so I had a salad with chicken salad (with homemade mayo– my favorite thing ever).
Then I did some doctor-y things, like admit patients to the hospital, order chest X-rays, try not to let anyone get too sick overnight 🙂
I packed one of my pumpkin pancakes as a snack and ate it along with my 2am coffee. The cafeteria closes at 7pm and doesn’t open again until 2am, so I’m always waiting until 2 for a coffee refill!
I don’t really buy food from the cafeteria since I always pack my own, but I ALWAYS steal crackers and peanut butter- it’s my go-to snack on call.
I got home around 10:30 in the morning after my night on call, ate
everything in the fridge a snack and then promptly went to sleep and didn’t wake up again until 5pm.
Normally I get in at least 3 good workouts on my day off, pre-call, and post-call day- but this week? Zero. I’ve just felt so tired and had NO motivation to go to the gym. I hate feeling this way- and I notice that the more I skip workouts, the more tired and lazy I feel. I’ve got to get back at it!!
So I’m promising to you all- I’m going to workout at least a few short workouts in the next 3 days- it’s not about having the best/hardest/most intense workouts ever- it’s about consistency and getting yourself back into healthy habits after a few days of feeling off and being lazy. Right? At least that’s what I tell myself!!
Hope you all are having a wonderful week!!
