I have a lot of things I’ve been thinking about regarding working out. In the past 2 weeks I only worked out twice each week. I was feeling super tired and very unenthusiastic about my workouts, so I just skipped them. I really like working out because it normally makes me feel good, so when it stops making me feel good, I generally have no problem skipping it. Lately, I’ve been thinking about my attitude toward working out. I never want trips to the gym to feel like work, or like an obligation. I never want to be the one working out because I’m afraid that if I don’t I will gain 5 lbs overnight. I want fitness to be a hobby that I truly enjoy.
From 2nd-10th grade, I danced at a pretty intense dance studio in Florida. My life revolved around dance class, competitions on the weekends, master classes, and dance camps in the summer. I was so active then- dancing 4 or more hours every day. And I loved it. It was never a “workout” it was a recreational activity that brought me so much joy! Well, I hate to say it, but spending 30 minutes on the elliptical doesn’t bring me that same kind of joy.
Don’t get me wrong, sometimes a good sweaty session on the stairs while watching some trashy TV is my most favorite thing, but in the past few weeks it has felt like work and I’ve been dreading it.
So, in addition to taking some time off from the gym, I did something kind of out of character- but I’m super excited about it!
I signed up for a 5 week beginner tennis class! I have never played tennis, but the indoor courts are right across the street from my house, and it sounds so fun! I think it will be a great way to stay active while having fun and learning something new. Kyle loves tennis, so maybe we can start playing together?
My class starts this Friday and it meets once a week from 7-8pm. I really hope my schedule works out so that I don’t have to miss any classes.
Do you play tennis?
In other news, I have been trying to avoid all the donuts and muffins that we have each day in the resident room.
I do pretty well staying clear of the donuts, but those muffins are so good- I usually have at least one each day!!
And, my co-resident makes the most amazing cookies and brings them in while they’re still hot from the oven!! Cookie heaven 🙂
Yesterday was gorgeous- and it was my day off!! I cooked a lot (several recipes coming soon!) napped, actually worked out- it was boring, but felt good to sweat, and went to bed at 8pm. Glorious.
Does working out feel like a hobby to you? Or an obligation?
What do you to do make working out fun!?
Do you play tennis?
