Guess what? Only 3 more days this week and I am DONE with my medicine month! Even though the hours this month have been no different from my hours on the ICU, I am so tired and feel like I am not able to do all the normal things I should have time to do (like laundry, dishes, e-mails, clean my room…. not good!)
One awesome thing I did do this past week, was start my tennis class! I signed up for a 5 week beginner tennis class and had my first lesson on Friday. I am so so so bad, but I really enjoy it!!
Kyle and I rented the ball machine on Saturday and Sunday and we both practiced hitting.
It’s such a fun thing to do together! I am not anywhere near good enough to actually play a game with Kyle, but we both enjoyed hitting balls for an hour each day! Now my arm is sore!
2 nights ago was my last night call of the month. Boy did it feel good to be done! To celebrate my last night, I treated myself to some “good” coffee (the free coffee at the hospital is Seattle’s Best and it’s okay… but there is a Caribou right across the street that is better.) I also couldn’t resist a mini bacon egg and cheese sandwich- you have to start the night off right, right?
By 2 am I was really feeling it. Most of the time I get sleepy between 3 and 5am, but I don’t struggle too much. Maybe because it was my last call, maybe I just needed more coffee- either way, I was tired!!
But the night ended well- only 3 new patients admitted. We have lots of medical students coming for interviews this month, so occasionally 20 extra people all dressed up join us for our morning lectures and morning rounds. Yesterday, our morning lecture was a jeopardy style medical trivia game! SO fun!! My team won (all thanks to my advice to wager everything on the daily double and final jeopardy- and my ONE ophthalmology question that I got right ha!) But after jeopardy, I had to present my patients from overnight and I was so tired! I bet they thought I was a mess. Sigh.
Whenever I leave the hospital from my night on call, it is inevitably BEAUTIFUL outside. It makes me so mad that I have to go home and sleep when it looks like this!
But, of course I sleep anyways. First though, I made a huge plate of eggs, chicken, veggies, a veggie sausage, and toast with mayo (don’t judge- it’s so good!)
And a sliced banana with almond milk and a piece of chocolate. I’m always so hungry after call!
Then, it was nap time.
In other news, did you see this article?
I’ll write a better post about it, but I’m pretty excited that I can now justify chocolate all the time 😉 (I really didn’t have a problem justifying it before, but this makes it even better!) Here is the actual article:
