It’s Wednesday, it’s sunny and beautiful, I have no scheduled research responsibilities today- I think it’s going to be a great day!!!
Today is also day 11 of my Whole30! According to the timeline, yesterday and today are supposed to be the hardest days of the 30 and the most people quit during days 10 and 11. I felt really really great yesterday and didn’t have any negative thoughts toward the Whole30. Today when I got to Caribou coffee to do some work and the barista asked if I wanted an apple fritter, I had a twinge of annoyed feelings toward my super clean diet, but since I just had a huge and delicious bowl of chili, it wasn’t hard to say no.
I’ve been reading the timeline and seeing how much I relate to the different aspects of each day. They say many people have dreams of food, but I have had none of those.
They also mention that on days 8 and 9 of the whole30, many people experience stomach upset including bloating, bowel movement troubles, or gas.
On Sunday, which was day 9 for me, I had the WORST stomach ache ever. I could not move off of the couch for hours. I felt really crampy and nauseous. I felt fine for the early part of the day but it came on really quickly in the afternoon. I had to skip my workout 🙁
I also couldn’t stomach the idea of really anything for dinner. I finally had a half sweet potato and some olives- which actually made my stomach feel better!
Luckily, I felt 100% back to normal on Monday and now I feel great again. Weird.
Man oh man I have had some amazing food these past 11 days. I still have 3 more recipes I need to share with you guys. My staple morning meal has been eggs and veggies (often egg whites scrambled with a whole egg on top). I am also obsessed with berries topped with coconut butter.
If you haven’t tried coconut butter, please go get some asap. It’s way better than coconut oil because it’s made from the flesh of the coconut and isn’t just the fat. It’s meaty and creamy and tastes like frosting.
I love melting it on top of my berries.
Research has been going really well! I’m working on writing up my protocol and submitting to the IRB. I also get to go to surgery which is my favorite 🙂
I tried to watch some youtube videos of the surgeries before I went in, so I would know a tiny bit about what was going on.
We also wear these really intense “surgical procedure” scrubs which I think is pretty funny.
I didn’t have time for lunch one day, so I packed some carrots and almond butter and a larabar to snack on throughout the afternoon. So good!
I’ve spent a few days at coffee shops because I get about 10 times more done when I leave the house. Sometimes I feel guilty for spending money on coffee, but I justify it by telling myself that for $2 I am way more productive so it’s worth it. You gotta do what you gotta do right?
Yesterday I mentioned that I was in a bit of a slump with my workouts. I just feel like I do the same thing over and over. I don’t really have fitness goals and I definitely don’t think I’ve really improved my fitness that much over the past few years of always doing the same thing.
I guess I don’t really workout with any goals in mind- I just do it because it feels good. But sometimes I think I should subscribe to more of a regimented plan so I can see improvement in my fitness- I don’t know!!
What do you do to shake up your workout?
Have you tried coconut butter?
Do you study/work better at coffee shops?
