It has been so beautiful in Minnesota lately. The temperature is perfect- between 65 and 75 degrees- the sun has been shining, the sky is vibrant blue, there is a light breeze- it’s just magnificent! I hope this lasts until Christmas!!! (wishful thinking I know)
To celebrate the weather, Kyle and I decided to take a bike ride along the Douglas Trail which is a path that runs north from Rochester about 13 miles to a small town called Pine Island.
Since I don’t have a bike, my sweet friend Hilda let me borrow hers. Luckily, she lives just a mile or two off the Douglas Trail, so it was super easy to pick up her bike and start our ride!
Kyle and I left mid-morning and it was still pretty cool. I had to wear my jacket until we got going.
The ride was beautiful.
Most of it was through trees and countryside.
We only had to cross 2 or 3 streets the whole time.
We passed cows and horses, other bikers, and runners.
When we got to Pine Island, Kyle was ready for lunch. We spotted a little cafe and thought it would make a good spot to stop and eat!
I knew I would be hard pressed to find something Whole30 compliant in a tiny town, so I packed a Larabar to have as a snack (and I ate a huge breakfast before we left.)
Kyle got a burger and fries which I refrained from trying.
I really wanted this:
After lunch we rode around and explored the town a bit.
Then we rode back. It was about 26 miles total and we both felt pretty tired after! My booty was sore for sure!!
Now that we know about this perfect bike path, I really want to get myself a bike!! I think I’ll keep my eyes peeled for winter bike sales…
Have you done any long bike trips? I’ve always dreamed about biking across the country or biking around Europe… sigh… maybe one day!!
