What’s up friends!?
There are so few things going on in my life at the moment, but I thought I would take a minute to share the highlights with you.
Studying for Emergency Medicine
My Emergency Medicine rotation is coming to an end 🙁 My last shift is tomorrow, and our final exam is on Friday. I actually had this past Monday, Tuesday, and today off so I’ve been studying for the test on Friday. I must admit, it’s really hard to study when you’ve already matched into residency and grades don’t matter anymore…. But I’m trying I promise!!!
I’ve enjoyed this rotation so much I’m going to apply to be an extern at this hospital. That means I can work in the ED whenever I want for the next few months. Make some extra cash while seeing patients and learning more medicine? Sounds good to me!
Running in the Cold
Besides studying, I’ve also been running for the past few days. I signed up for a 10k this weekend with my gorgeous friend Sara (we ran the Color Me Rad run together last year). My only concern for the run is how cold it’s going to be!! I’m expecting the temps to be in the teens and twenties during the run which is just slightly too cold for me. I went out for a 4 mile run yesterday and even though I was bundled up in my best cold weather gear, I was still freezing for the majority of the run.
I ordered some new gloves on Amazon and I’m thinking about ordering some fleece running tights. Any other suggestions for staying warm during winter runs? What do you do!?
My lovely fiancé Kyle is turning 29 next week!! Last year we celebrated by shopping for new golf clubs and going to a fancy dinner. In general, we both prefer doing an activity together rather than material gifts. So, this year I got us tickets to the Indianapolis United Way Academy Awards Party! It’s a red carpet event downtown and benefits the United Way. It’s evening gown/black tie (optional) or cocktail attire, there’s a fancy dinner, and a screening of the Oscars! I thought it sounded way to fun (and I love any excuse to dress up).
To go along with the Oscar party, Kyle’s birthday present includes watching 6-7 of the Best Picture Nominees. We can’t fit all 9 into the next week, but we are going to try our hardest to watch as many as we can! Between Redbox and gift cards we have to iTunes and the movie theater, we should be able to watch quite a few for not much money at all. Not spending money and watching movies makes Kyle happy, getting all dressed up makes me happy = perfect date night/birthday present!
2 Nights ago we watched Dallas Buyers Club.
I couldn’t believe how incredible the acting was; I didn’t recognize Matthew Mcconaughey or Jared Leto at all. The movie is heartwarming but sad, inspiring yet realistic. Matthew’s character transitions from a homophobic cowboy who cares about no one but himself, to a selfless and generous man who wants to help others. It also portrays the harsh world of pharmaceuticals, the FDA, and the difficult position physicians are put in. I really really liked it 🙂 But, I still can’t get over how skinny Matthew was… scary skinny!
Last night we watched Captain Phillips.
Holy moly I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. It’s SO good. I can’t believe it actually happened. It made me feel so proud of our military and also made me never want to go sailing around Somalia. Also, did you know the Best Supporting Actor Nominee was a limo driver in Minnesota before they scouted him out for this role??? I bet his life has changed!!
We still have American Hustle, The Wolf of Wallstreet, 12 Years a Slave, and maybe Gravity to fit in before Sunday. I’m not super excited about Gravity- Does anyone recommend Philomena or Nebraska over it?
I hope you all have a great day!!
