My day yesterday was so boring I didn’t want to blog about it. But I did make a really tasty dinner, so I guess that’s reason enough to post something right?
Plus, it’s What I Ate Wednesday from Peas and Crayons, and I can’t miss a week!
After my sweet Kyle picked me up from the airport (we have our one year engagement anniversary this weekend- can you believe it?!?!) we made a quick pit stop at Costco to buy more frozen tilapia and broccoli- staples in our house.
I’ve actually become really obsessed with the costco tilapia loins because they are frozen in perfect 4 oz filets, cook up quickly, taste amazing- not fishy at all, and make a quick healthy meal. Unfortunately, they are farmed fish and so I know not the best choice for health and the environment… but in a pinch they make a decent meal.
After costco and a nap, I was finally ready to go to the gym. But first, I had to stop at yet another grocery store to get some Franks Red Hot Sauce for dinner that night. I was planning to make spicy buffalo cauliflower bites and needed hot sauce!
At the gym I did 25 minutes on the stairs followed by a back and biceps workout. I did:
Alternating sets of bicep curls and and one arm dumbbell rows x 4 sets
Alternating sets of hammer curls and bent over flies x 3 sets
Seated narrow grip rows
Wide grip lat pulldowns
I hate working out my back- it is one of my weaker muscle groups, so I always try to avoid it. But yesterday I gave my back a good workout! I promise 😉
I finished up with 10 minutes of sprints (30 sec on, 30 sec off) and walked for 5 minutes after- only because I wanted to keep watching Revenge on my phone.
Then, I did a very Jersey Shore kind of thing. I went to the Laundry and Tan place RIGHT after I left the gym. I had a ridiculous amount of dry cleaning I needed to drop off, and I really wanted a spray tan. I’ve been feeling so pale lately (my make-up doesn’t match my face anymore!!!) so I thought I would treat myself to a lovely spray tan.
If I can just put on my student doctor hat for a minute and talk about tanning beds. Just say NO. Tanning beds have been linked to skin cancer over and over again. Skin cancer risk dramatically increases with time spent exposed to UV rays. Also, tanning leads to more wrinkles, sun spots, and all kinds of bad things. Tanning does have benefits in that it can increase vitamin D production, but you can get enough Vitamin D by being outside for under 30 minutes on a sunny day. Even in the winter, it’s better to get Vit D from supplements and any short time you spend outside. Spray tanning is I’m sure not a 100% safe option either- you have to breath in all those chemicals, but I still opt for the 2-3 spray tans a year instead of spending any time in a tanning bed. Oh- and always wear sunscreen 🙂
I had seen a recipe for Buffalo Cauliflower Bites on SkinnyTaste and wanted to try them out. I love buffalo flavored things and eat them so rarely!! I tweaked the recipe a little- subbing oat flour in for regular flour to make it a little bit healthier.
1 head cauliflower
1 cup oat flour (put oatmeal in a food processor)
2 tsp garlic powder
1 cup water
1/2 cup Frank’s Red Hot Sauce
1 tbs butter
Preheat oven to 450F. Cut cauliflower into bite size pieces. Mix flour, water, and garlic powder in a bowl until well combined. Add cauliflower and stir until it’s coated with the flour mixture.
Put coated cauliflower on a baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes. Meanwhile, melt 1 tbs butter and mix with Frank’s Red Hot sauce. Coat cauliflower with hot sauce mixture and bake for another 5 minutes.
I served this with my tilapia and loved it!!
Do you like Buffalo things?
Do you do the gym/tan/laundry thing?
