On Thursday I drove to St. Louis. On Friday I flew to Alabama. On Saturday I drove (okay, Kyle drove) to Indy. On Sunday I flew to Virginia. Today is Tuesday and I’m in the airport on route to Minnesota.
It’s been a busy week!
Since I have interviews for residency all month, I took a vacation month for November instead of any clinical rotations. That way, I can focus on unpacking and repacking my suitcase every week. You get 2 vacation months as a 4th year, but if you skip vacation 3rd year and do a rotation instead, you get 3 months vacation as a 4th year. I would highly recommend doing that!
This stretch of interviews started on Thursday in St. Louis. There are 2 ophthalmology programs in St. Louis- SLU Eye Institute and Washington University. I’m interviewing at wash u in December so this trip was for SLU.
When I found out I was going to St. Louis, I reached out to one of my favorite bloggers, Linz (from itzlinz.com) and asked if I could stay with her. Of course, she is the nicest person ever and let me crash in her guest room Thursday night!
Blogging has so many perks, but making new friends is definitely the best one!
Look how sweet she is:
SLU hosted a dinner for us the night before interviews. Most programs do a dinner at a local restaurant, but this time it was at one of the faculty’s homes!! I thought that was so nice and welcoming.
Friday was interview day and I really loved the program. I’ve actually enjoyed myself at all my interviews so I think that no matter where I end up for residency, I will be super happy!!
Maybe the best part of the interview day was the pumpkin oatmeal that Linz made me for breakfast. It was so warm and comforting- and tasted like pumpkin pie in a bowl!!! I loved that she put walnuts and raisins in it too- I’m a big texture person 🙂
The interview day ended at 2 and my flight wasn’t until 7, so I found a local gym and bought a day pass. I’ve decided that with all the eating out this month for interviews, I should just focus on getting in exercise every day 🙂
After my workout I went back to Linz’s house and got my stuff together to head to the airport. I flew out to Alabama that night!
Stay tuned for Alabama and Virginia recaps!!
