I’m in the airport headed home from Augusta Georgia. Interview #3 was yesterday which means I only have 72 more to go. (Kidding… But it feels like I have 72!!)
I was lucky to not have to stay at a hotel this trip because I stayed with one of Kyles friends from college!! Layton was the sweetest and most wonderful hostess- I wish I had taken a picture with her!! I’m taking advantage of anyone I know in every state I’m visiting so I can avoid hotels. If you live in Alabama and have a couch- I’ll be there this weekend!!
This trip has been a little better than the last 2 because I packed all my own food!! I planned out 5 meals a day and packed accordingly.
My first meal to go was in the airport on the way to Georgia. I packed an apple and a Tupperware with chicken, rice, and salad. I must say, this was WAYYY tastier, healthier, and cheaper than anything I could have bought at the airport!!
On Sunday night the residents hosted a dinner for us, so I didn’t pack anything for that night. We went to a cute tapas restaurant and there were tons of us!! Maybe 30 people? It’s so fun to meet other med students (especially ophthalmology students because they’re all awesome!) so I had a great time!
Dressed for dinner!
Monday morning was interview day, and I was ready with breakfast!! I made pumpkin protein muffins and packed another apple to eat in the car!
I’m so glad I had breakfast early because the program started at 6:45 am and didn’t put out coffee and bagels until 9!!! I was dying for coffee by that time. And of course when I saw pumpkin bagels I had to have one. I just can’t resist- if you put food in front of me, I will eat it!!
Lunch was provided by the program as well. I convinced myself that a gigantic brownie was totally necessary since I had so many interviews and needed the energy ;-). Told you- no willpower!!
After the interview day was over, I decided to explore Augusta. It didn’t take me long driving around to find the Savannah River Walk. This little path along the river was gorgeous!!! I had packed my tennis shoes hoping I would find a place like this to go for a run!
I ran up and down this path for about 45 minutes.
I even found these bleachers that I ran up and down 5 times to add some intensity to my run.
It was such a beautiful run and I loved getting to explore Augusta a bit.
That night, I knew I wanted a healthy dinner after everything I enjoyed during the interview!! Luckily, I had chicken, rice, and veggies packed which hit the spot.
This morning I had another pumpkin muffin (or 2) and an apple for breakfast. My healthy packed food has saved me from buying dinner last night and anything at the airport!
I hope you had a great weekend and a good start to the week!
