I finished up this stretch of interviews and got to sleep in my own bed last night!! Yippeee!!!! It feels SO good to be home.
I had to leave Clare in Virginia on Tuesday morning super early. I was so sad to go because 1.) Charlottesville is so beautiful and 2.) Clare is awesome. But, I had an interview in Minnesota to get to, so I headed to the airport.
I didn’t pack as much food for this leg of the trip so I had to get things to eat while I was out an about. First on the list was coffee. I felt super thirsty and iced coffee sounded better than hot, so that’s what I got 🙂 I swear my life as turned in to airports and coffee.
Once I landed in Minnesota, I had time to grab a bite to eat before my shuttle left to take me to Rochester.
I got a salad and soup from a little cafe and I must say- for airport food, it was really good!!
Even though I was full, I was dying for something sweet. I was basically forced to walk into this chocolate shop in the airport- I didn’t have a choice!! 😉
I bought a peppermint truffle and a dark chocolate coconut haystack. So good. Everything in moderation right?
I made it to my hotel in Rochester around 1 pm and checked into my room. The hotel was SO convenient because it was literally right across the street from the Mayo Clinic main building. The rooms were really nice, but super tiny!!! I felt like I was in a little dorm room back in college!
Once I had unpacked, I hit the hotel gym. Sitting in airplanes all day will really make you crave going to the gym. I did a chest and triceps workout that consisted of:
- Bench press
- Dumbbell chest flies (lying on bench)
- Triceps push-ups
- Incline bench press
- Triceps cable pull-down
- Cable cross reach
Then I did 45 minutes on the elliptical because I had to watch the rest of Nashville before the new episode that night!!!
P.S. I really should be studying while on these cardio machines. Next time I tell you about watching something while on the elliptical, yell at me and tell me to go study!
Speaking of working out, I am really proud of how I’ve been able to fit in exercise even when traveling. I was looking at my workout log and check it out:

Not too shabby!!! Now I just have to keep it up and stop eating so many cookies 😉
After my workout in the hotel, I was hungry and we still had about 3 hours until dinner. There was a Starbucks in the hotel lobby, so I grabbed a snack.
Then I got all dressed up for dinner and met my fellow applicants downstairs before we walked to the restaurant. I wish I could take pictures during dinners and interviews but I don’t want anyone thinking I’m a big blogging weirdo… so you will just have to imagine my amazing chicken, mashed potatoes, asparagus, and chocolate cake dinner.
The next day was interview day!!!
I must admit, I really liked Mayo. I think if I went there for residency I would get amazing training. I also think I would work HARD and be really busy, but it sounds like it’s worth it!
Mayo Clinic is really focused on health and wellness which I love. They have an incredible fitness center and get this- the price per month goes down the more you use it! What a fabulous idea! Ironically, I ate SO much while I was in Minnesota- chocolate cake, a scone, 2 chocolate chip cookies, and ice-cream. Whoops!!! Now I’m home and gratefully can be without sugar for a week.
Have you ever been to the Mayo Clinic?
Do you crave being home and eating your own food after traveling? I sure do!!
