It’s been over a week since my last post… sorry about my absence! As much as I love blogging, it was really nice to have a week off to just focus on school, Kyle, and myself. I always told myself that if blogging became a chore, or stopped bringing me joy, I wouldn’t do it for one more second. I never want the blog to become something I feel obligated to do. But last week, that’s kind of how I felt.
Lately I’ve been struggling with the blog because honestly, I just don’t know what to blog about right now! I’ve written the same ‘day in the life of a medical student’ post for over a year! I get lots and lots of requests for more ‘how-to’ type posts, or informative posts like, “best snacks on the go”. I shy away from these types of posts because truly, I don’t feel like I have any authority to write that kind of stuff!
I’m not here walking around with six pack abs, I don’t run marathons, I’m not a vegan/paleo/anything special diet. In fact, I eat un-clean, processed junk ALL the time! (Especially now that Kyle has moved in and buys Oreos!)
But in spite of those feelings, I can’t bear the thought of no more ADITH. So, onward I go! Blogging about what I know best: How to get good grades in med school (not to brag, but getting good grades is my one talent), how to attempt to make healthy choices, how to not make healthy choices and eat a pint of ice cream but then get right back onto the healthy train, how to fit working out into a busy schedule, and most importantly- how to be a pretty average healthy person.
I’m not special. I do pretty normal workouts, nothing too intense. I eat pretty normal food- nothing too specialized. But maybe that’s what can make my blog special… the non-specialness of it. I’m just a normal girl trying to be moderately healthy. I definitely don’t think I should be anyone’s role model. Pick a fitness star or a nutrition guru for that. But maybe I can motivate one more normal, moderately healthy person like me.
Or maybe we can just be friends?
So there is my ‘dear diary’ moment for today. Hope you liked it 🙂
In other news, Kyle has OFFICIALLY moved to Indianapolis and we are now living together!
We spent the weekend painting our bedroom this slate gray color. Sorry the bed’s not made- you get the idea. We also installed that ceiling fan. You should have seen the disgusting fan that was in there before. It didn’t work, the light bulbs were exposed because the covering had fallen off and been lost before I bought the house… It looked bad.
Then we went to dinner to celebrate his first week at his new job.
My shrimp cocktail had dry ice below it! The fog from the ice was billowing out of the bowl- so cool!
I OFFICIALLY mailed in my application for residency! As soon as I have word it’s been received by the application center in San Francisco, I will press submit on the computer portion of the application. Then the waiting game begins!!
My July rotation ended and today marks the first day of my August rotation- Public Health/Preventative Medicine. I mentioned in another post that I was hoping to get this elective; I did! I can’t wait to tell you guys all about my project for the month. It’s also going to be SO nice to not wear my white coat for a month!
My workouts have been lots of running outside, some running inside while watching trashy TV, and lots of DVDs.
My favorites right now are Turbofire, Insanity, and The Ultimate Yogi. I’ve really become a huge fan of at-home workouts. They are pretty awesome workouts and it makes it way easier to fit it into your schedule.
Yesterday I did some jogging and walking on my treadmill. I finished off the workout by doing 3 sets of bicep curls, hammer curls, and shoulder presses while walking on the treadmill. My heart rate stayed up the whole time since I was walking, but I concentrated on lifting slowly and keeping my muscles contracted. It was a good little 5 minute arm workout!
So there is my life in a nutshell. I should be back to blogging regularly now 🙂
Tell me what you’ve been up to!
Have you ever struggled with blogging? How to you get motivated again?
