It’s Monday and that means back to work! Kyle and I didn’t get in to the Indianapolis airport until midnight last night and the poor guy had to be in surgery at 7 this morning! Lucky for me, I can take a nap today. But I think Kyle is going to be one tired cookie tonight.
Kyle and I had a fabulous weekend in Florida with my dad, his girlfriend Linda, my grandma, two aunts, and cousin. Family time is so important and I’m grateful we are able to pop down to Florida if only for a few days, to see everyone.
Saturday was spent in sunny Sarasota! My dad’s house is 2 miles from the beach, the perfect walking distance, so Kyle and I set off on foot Saturday morning. I think we were only out in the sun for 2 hours but both of us were definitely sunburned enough to call it a day around noon.
We stopped to split a sandwich for lunch at Anna’s Deli. They have great deli sandwiches and pumpernickel bread- my favorite!
Kyle liked it too 🙂
Once home, we cleaned up, took a nap, and got ready for dinner. My dad was a genius and thought to order filet’s from Omaha steaks to grill out for dinner. While the boys tended to the grill outside, Linda and I hung out in the kitchen making a summer corn salad.
This delicious bowl of perfection had sweet corn, cucumbers, red onion, tomato, avocado, cilantro, and lime juice. The crunchy, juicy, creamy textures all blended perfectly and the flavors were summery and refreshing. It went perfectly with the steaks.
After dinner, we piled into the car and drove to the beach to watch the sun set.
It was a bit of a cloudy night, but the ocean was beautiful. I got the cutest picture of my dad and Linda in the water!
I can’t believe I didn’t take a picture of the spectacular dessert we had. Along with the steaks, dad ordered chocolate molten lava cakes from Omaha Steaks. They were small, but big enough for Kyle and me to split one. We baked them in the oven until the chocolate inside was oozing out the top. The cakes were topped with whipped cream and raspberries, and devoured.
Sunday morning, I was up and ready to run off my chocolate cake. Lots of people give advice on how to stay healthy while on vacation… my opinion is that as long as you keep up your exercise routine, you should indulge in yummy foods you don’t usually eat. Unless you are really trying to lose weight, I say go for it and eat lots of chocolate cake!
I ran over the bridge to the beach and down the road until my GPS said 2 miles. Then I turned back and ran home. With all the stopping for lights and picture taking, it took 45 minutes. Pardon the squinty face, it was BRIGHT!
I was a sweaty mess by the end- that Florida heat is killer!!
Sunday day was spent in Naples with my grandma. We had a wonderful afternoon and were so sad to leave. My dad has all the pictures on his camera, so I will have to get them from him! We had a bit of a wait in the airport, so to use up every last ounce of the “I’m on vacation” excuse, I got a beer!
I definitely couldn’t drink it all… but I slept like a baby on the plane, so that’s good!
In Atlanta, Kyle and I sat down to split a HUGE cup of frozen yogurt.
Sitting next to us was Rutledge Wood from the History Channel’s Top Gear. Have you seen this show? I didn’t know who we was, but Kyle did! He was seriously so nice and we had a great chat while eating dinner.
And so ended our weekend.
Hope you had a great one!!
