Alright, I know I’ve stretched this conference out into seventeen blog posts, but it was really so great I can’t leave anything out!
Saturday was the last real day of the FitBloggin conference and so of course, the day was packed with events. We started the morning bright and early with 6 am yoga. Katie and I wore our matching new Reebok tanks.
The yoga class was actually pretty non-yoga-y for me. It seemed more like a ‘yoga for athletes’, stretching kind of thing. We didn’t talk about focusing on our breath, and the instructor didn’t use any yoga- terms. I didn’t dislike the class, I just didn’t like it as much as my yoga at home which to me is almost a spiritual experience.
Maybe I’m just a yoga-snob 😉
After yoga, we had a short break to grab breakfast and then at 8 we had another fitness class. This fitness class was by far one of the best fitness classes I have EVER taken. It was a cardio class on TRAMPOLINES!!!! Everyone got their own little trampoline and we jumped away for an hour. It sounds like fun but let me tell you, this class was no joke! We did squat jumps, sprints, burpees, and more. I was a sweaty mess when it ended but on an energy high from how fun it was!
We had partners for this workout as well and Melissa was the best! We cheered each other on during our sprints.
Once my two morning workouts were over, I ran upstairs to shower.
It was getting close to lunchtime and I had big plans to ditch the conference for a while and meet up with another blogger friend who lives in Portland! Christina and I met online through a training program and then started chatting to each other through our blogs. When I blogged that I was coming to Portland, she said we should get together!
Before Fitbloggin, I had never met a blogging friend in person. I must admit, it feels a tiny bit weird until you actually see the person and realize they are just like you thought they would be and you become instant real life friends 🙂
Christina and her boyfriend met my mom and I at our hotel around noon and we set off to find a good restaurant for lunch. They chose a little tapas place nearby and WOW. It was delicious.
We each chose 1 medium sized entree to share with the entire table. I wanted some green so I chose 2 smaller plates- a salad and some mussels to share with everyone. We started with the salad:
It had pumpkin seeds, asparagus, and a fresh cheese on top- amazing. We also got bread with 3 different salsas to try.
You know I love the bread!
Next, Christina ordered an avocado stuffed crab which was light and summery and fantastic.
The mussels there in the background had corn, cilantro, lime, and maybe some fresh tomato. They were refreshing and I could have eaten 20 of them 🙂
Next up was quinoa crusted shrimp. It was crunchy and tasted so sinful- like a big bowl of fried shrimp. Such a treat!
And lastly, scallops. Topped with some crispy onions. OMG.
This meal was definitely a treat for all of us. Mostly, I think we all enjoyed talking to one another! Christina and her boyfriend Michael just competed in a fitness competition together, so I wanted to hear all about that of course! My mom had a great time as well.
After lunch, my mom wanted to explore more of Portland so she left. Christina, Michael, and I did our own exploring! I mentioned that everyone at the conference was trying VooDoo Donuts, a unique Portland donut shop, so we figured we could walk over there and get a donut for dessert!
Well, the line was 45 minutes long! In the blazing sun! Even though the donuts smelled good, I was no about to wait that long.
Plan B. Christina and Michael took me to the most gorgeous spot in the city:
That’s Mt. Hood in the background!
And that mountain peaking through the trees is Mt. Saint Helens!!
We got this beautiful view from the Pittock Mansion grounds. Way up, overlooking all of Portland.
It was stunning. I am so glad they took me up there!
Since our donuts were a no-go, we all were still craving something sweet. Frozen yogurt on the way home hit the spot!
I said goodbye to Christina and Michael because I had to get back to the conference. But I really had the best day ever with them and I am SO happy I got to meet Christina in person! I know we will see each other again 🙂
Saturday night was the closing night of Fitbloggin. We had a delicious dinner of various hors d’oeuvres and sampled some Nutrillite smoothies because they sponsored the evening.
After a full weekend, it was nice to just hang out with everyone!
I have been reading Erica’s blog for a while now and I couldn’t contain my excitement to meet her. She is so fabulous. We bonded over blogging and our thoughts of the conference. She is seriously the greatest and I hope to see her again!
I also got to meet Coco!! She’s commented on the blog a couple times and now I’m obsessed with her blog!
All in all, it was a great night.
Sunday morning, Fitbloggin hosted a 1 mile, 5k, and 10k run to say goodbye. I needed to get to the airport just a little earlier than the run would have allowed, so I left the hotel a bit earlier and got in a nice run by myself. The weather was perfect.
I didn’t intend on tracking the distance, but half-way through I was curious, so I turned on my GPS. I think in total I ran a little over 4 miles.
When I got back to the hotel, a few girls were waiting to get a cab to the airport. I saw Carla and snapped a picture with her to prove that I met the famous MizFit. I actually got to meet Carla on Friday and we chatted a few times during the conference. She is just as amazing in person and meeting her was such a highlight of my trip!!!
Don’d mind my weird crouch. I was just trying to avoid getting my sweaty arms on everyone 🙂
After that, I cleaned up and my mom and I made our way to the airport, sad to leave.
We had a blast in Portland and I thoroughly loved my first blogging conference.
Have you gone to a blogging conference?
Do you have any bloggers you’re dying to meet in person?
