What I Ate Wednesday
Have I mentioned it’s mulberry season? My sweet mom drove up here all the way from Southern Indiana to bring me about 4 huge tupperwares filled with mulberries. There are tons of trees in our town and apparently she is the only one who knows how delicious and nutritious they are. If you’ve never tried mulberries, they are sweet, delicate berries, almost like a blackberry, but more mild.
They are jam packed with nutrients like antioxidants. It’s possible they have wayyyy more nutrients than blueberries or blackberries according to this article.
So I anticipate each morning for the next 2 weeks being filled with mulberries. And I am super excited!
Yesterday I had greek yogurt with oats, cinnamon, and mulberries. All mixed up:
Oh so good.
I was planning on being in the OR for the morning and clinic during the afternoon, so I left my lunch in my car. I figured I could eat it as I drove to clinic around noon.
Well, all the surgeries yesterday were really interesting and my resident said it was okay to forgo clinic in lieu of staying in the OR all afternoon. Of course, my car was a million miles away so I never had a chance to go grab my lunch. So from 8am-4pm I ate graham crackers and peanut butter… oh, and a piece of cake. Great.
Finally I was able to eat the glorious food I had packed for the day:
Egg whites, seitan, zucchini, green onions, and sriracha.
And a huge bag of watermelon.
I had also made some chicken yesterday morning:
I intended to eat it atop this salad:
But since I missed lunch, I just ate the eggs and left the salad to eat today. That’s okay 🙂
Later in the evening I had a snack of celery and PB2 and some almond milk.
And I also snacked on a banana and a flat out wrap.
Not my healthiest of days. Hopefully today will be a more balanced day.
I was able to get in a Turbofire 45 minute workout. The 45 minute one is awesome! It’s pretty hard the entire time and works your arms as well as core, and of course cardio. I really like it.
I was able to scrub into one case yesterday and it was SO amazingly cool. Eye surgery is fascinating to me. I really love every new case I see. Now that I am on oculoplastics, I really love all the cases I see. It’s amazing what they can do! I saw a man yesterday who had a lesion on his eyelid removed. He was left with literally less than half his lower eyelid. We constructed a new eyelid out of his upper eye-lid. Unbelievable.
Here is the orbital fracture case I was in yesterday:
If you look where the mouse arrow is pointing, you can see the broken bones below the eye. If this picture is totally confusing to you, it’s a head cut in half down the middle of the nose. You are looking at the eye and nose in cross-section. The big black hole is your sinus cavity.
So cool right?
Am I grossing you out with all my eye surgery stuff? I hope not 🙂
ENTER the Bestowed Giveaway!!!! That’s not really a question… oh well!
