It’s been a few days since I’ve blogged… so let me catch you up!!
Wednesday was my last day of my ophthalmology rotation. I had to go to clinic that morning and then take my exam that afternoon. The exam was basically the same exam I took during my ophthalmology rotation 3rd year, but longer since I am now a 4th year. Instead of 5 essay questions, I had to do 10!
Since I hope to go into the field of ophthalmology, I figured I should probably study and try to do well on the exam… so I spent most of Monday and Tuesday studying. My upcoming trip to Portland didn’t even cross my mind until my exam was over Wednesday afternoon.
The morning of my exam was a beautiful, cool morning, and since I didn’t have to be at the hospital until 8 am, I took advantage of the extra time and did a quick outdoor workout.
The benefits of living near a university are the gorgeous buildings and stairs you can run up and down at 6 am.
These are about 1 mile away from my house- the perfect distance to run to, sprint up and down 10 times, and run home.
I didn’t take a picture of breakfast, but I did snap a picture of my purple tongue after a bowl of blueberries!
My exam actually went really well! I felt like I knew about 208348502 times more than I did when I took the test a few months ago. I have learned so much about ophthalmology!
Once my test was over, it hit me that I needed to pack for Portland and prepare my talk for FitBloggin. I hadn’t even BEGUN to prepare for my presentation! I think I’ve mentioned before that if I have an upcoming exam, I don’t do ANYTHING until it’s over. I don’t pay my bills, I don’t do laundry, I don’t clean, I don’t check the mail. I am a one track minded girl until my test is turned in.
So of course, Wednesday night was a blur of packing and working on my presentation.
Luckily, my amazing mom agreed to accompany me on my trip to Oregon. We don’t get NEAR enough mother/daughter time and so this trip was the perfect opportunity for some girl bonding. She helped me get all my stuff together Wednesday night.
On Thursday morning, we boarded the plane to Portland!!
I was so honored to be selected as a speaker for FitBloggin. As a relatively new blogger, I was so nervous applying to speak, but I am so passionate about health and wellness in the community, I wanted to get all the other bloggers pumped up about it too!
My talk, “Motivating your community to choose a healthy lifestyle” was selected to be a small-group discussion, which is just what I wanted. On Wednesday night and on the airplane Thursday, I made a little handout with info about obesity rates in the US, how to motivate others, and different programs around the country to help you get started doing something in your town.
My mom and I landed in Portland on Thursday around noon. We checked into the hotel and our vacation started!
TO be continued….
