HI!!! Before I recap yesterday, I want to show you this video introducing the Under Armour “What’s Beautiful” Campaign. I’m participating in this campaign as a Fitfluential Ambassador but anyone can join and it’s going to be super fun! Check it out![youtube.com=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RR31N0kZufY]

Okay now yesterday. I had to leave the house around 8am because yesterday was the IU Simon Cancer Center Research Day. It’s a research symposium for everyone at IU studying cancer basically. Since I did research work with retinoblastoma, a pediatric cancer, I was invited to present my poster! I got all dressed up (that skirt was super loose last summer and now is quite snug… further evidence that I need to be sweating every day).
Isn’t my poster pretty?
I get weirdly excited talking about my project so if you ever want me to talk your ear off about what I did, just let me know! I know you will all be lining up to hear about my research 😉
In the afternoon, lunch was catered in for all the participants. I had been standing at my poster since 10am and I was starving. While wrapping up the poster session around 1pm I had a small plate of veggies and then finally sat down to eat my packed lunch: A flat out wrap with turkey, cucumbers, greens, and laughing cow cheese. It was actually kinda soggy and disappointing… oh well.
I also inhaled 2/3 a blueberry scone before I realized what I was doing and threw the rest away! Be gone evil sugar!! Just kidding… but really, I have no need for baked goods in my life and yet they follow me around! They know I’m an easy target.
At 3pm the symposium was over and they gave out awards for the poster presentations. There were a ton of categories but I’m going to tell myself that my category was the largest. I won second place!! I was a little miffed I didn’t win first place, since my poster is so beautiful and all… but I’m sure the Ph D student who won 1st deserved it. I was the only medical student in the category.
On my way home from the conference I stopped by our medical school’s student outreach clinic which is in a church downtown (aka not a safe neighborhood). I’m working with a team to start an eye clinic each month and the IU optometry school generously donated a slit lamp and phoropter (big vision screening machines). Because I had to present my research earlier that day, I couldn’t be there to help move the equipment so I wanted to make sure everything went smoothly. It did!
Afternoon snack of chicken, broccoli slaw, and sweet potato:
And then it was gym time!
The finale of Dancing with the Stars aired a few nights ago and I hadn’t seen it yet so I decided to jog on the treadmill while watching it on my phone. I did some incline walking intervals as well.
Then I followed this legs workout but was so tired I didn’t finish the last 3 exercises… oh well.
Post workout (it was already pretty late) I heated up a veggie burger and wrapped it in lettuce. It took about 3 minutes to eat and then I went straight to bed.
All in all it was a wonderful day!!
