This past weekend was the best weekend ever mainly because Saturday was the best day ever.
My best friend Vanessa threw a bridal shower for me!!
Now, Kyle and I aren’t planning on getting married until next April or May, but Vanessa lives in Australia and is only home once or twice a year. She is actually a third year medical student there but grew up here in Indiana. We went to college together but when it was time to go off to medical school, she decided to be way cooler than me and go to the University of Sydney. So cool right?
Anyways, she’s home for 7 weeks this time and decided it would be a good time to have a shower! She’s technically my maid of honor even though Kyle and I aren’t inviting anyone besides parents and grandparents to our ceremony.
So brace yourself for extreme picture overload:
The bridal shower had a nautical theme which is perfect for summer and also matches our college sorority Delta Gamma (symbol is the anchor).
The party favors were jars of granola- I about died when I saw them.
The food was as delicious as it looks:
After lots of hugs and screaming about how excited we all were to see everyone, we sat down to eat.
Above from left to right is Vanessa the hostess, Kyle’s sister Whitney, Kyle’s mom Susie, Kyle’s sister Lindsay, and Kyle’s grandma Dolores.
My gorgeous mom 🙂
And after eating, it was time for presents!!!
I was so overwhelmed by all the gifts. I think I am the luckiest girl in the world!! Kyle and I didn’t register for a ton of things, but in this one shower we got every single thing on our registry with the exception of salt and pepper shakers. Amazing!
Apparently there is a tradition in which you keep all the bows from your shower gifts and make them into a bouquet. You keep the bouquet and carry it with you at your rehearsal dinner. I had no idea about this tradition; luckily my friends were on top of it.
Lucy made the best bouquet I’ve ever seen.
I was so grateful to have all of Kyle’s family here with me! Indianapolis is a long drive from home but they made it! In this picture is Kyle’s mom, his 2 sisters, and his grandma.
Kyle’s gorgeous sister Whitney! Love this girl! She is in her last year of pharmacy school. With Kyle as a PA, Whitney the pharmacist, Kyle’s other sister Lindsay the lawyer, and me the doctor-to-be, we have quite the professional family!!
We all saved room for dessert obviously!
And Vanessa even had little snacks for the afternoon.
All these girls are Butler girls whom I’ve known since freshman year and our friendships only get stronger over the years. Even though EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM minus 2 moved to Chicago, we chat on the phone, see each other when we can, and have never lost touch. They have been there for me SO MANY TIMES through medical school and I would be there for them in a heartbeat- even though they don’t have weekly breakdowns like me 😉
Okay, now with these individual photos, you get to see just how short I really am… it’s pitiful.
My gorgeous sista Abby who works for Linked-In in Chicago and is business woman super-hero/social media queen. Love her!
Kelly my fashion guru. She is a pharmacist, artist, most creative person you will ever meet. We lived together one semester and it was the best. Love you Kel!
Ashlee and I have been best friends since early registration at Butler before freshman year. She is my best best friend and when she moves to Seattle next week I don’t know what I will do without her. The only good thing is that I am positive our friendship will be forever and I know that no distance will change that!
Sarah is my brilliant friend. She is a PA like Kyle. In a week or so she will switch from general surgery to plastic surgery- she is amazing. We lived together all senior year and she was the best roommate ever. Love her to death!
Marissa!!! This girl is a year older and was such an inspiration to me in our sorority. Right now she is a teacher and has this amazing urban farming initiative- her school has a raised bed vegetable garden, compost bins, and chickens!!!!!!! My dream come true. I want her life.
And of course, my bestest friend who threw this perfect party- doctor-to-be Vanessa. We’ve been pretty inseparable since freshman year of college. Even though she now lives in Australia, our friendship hasn’t changed a bit. We skype and text constantly. I wish I could be there for her more, since she is a semester behind me (Australia starts school in January) and so I know what torture of medical school she’s going through.
Vanessa sent me home with the coolest gift.
She had everyone write messages, marriage advice, recipes, or anecdotes, and put them into bottles.
Kyle and I got to open our messages in bottles later that night. So special 🙂
And so ended a perfect day with my bestest of friends. I am so lucky to have these girls in my life and I am SO lucky to have Kyle’s amazing family as well.
***Lucy and Paige- I don’t have individual pictures with you but I love you!!
Have you had a bridal shower? What was the theme?
If you were going to plan a bridal shower, what would the theme be?
