Okay that title is a lie. I didn’t deliver a real baby. I did however practice delivering a fake, plastic baby. It was pretty cool.
Before I recap yesterday I just want to say thanks again for how supportive you all are! The comments yesterday just filled my heart with joy!! I love this little blog and it’s because of the friends I’ve made through it 🙂
Yesterday was the first day of OBGYN. We took our surgery exam on Tuesday and then Wednesday it’s back to work! No rest for us. At first I wasn’t all that excited for OBGYN. It’s the very last rotation of third year, I know I don’t want to do it for my career, and I’m kinda tired- this year has been long! (but awesome) So I thought I would just slug through OBGYN and get it over with. But I’m happy to say that my grumpy, lazy attitude changed and now I’m actually really excited for OBGYN! During orientation yesterday we practiced pap smears, delivering a baby, and delivering the placenta. I must admit that even though we were practicing on fake models, it was pretty cool!
I also lucked out with a sweet location for OBGYN. At my hospital we rotate days of clinic, days on labor and delivery, and days in the operating room. Today I have clinic but tomorrow we’ll be in the OR. I love that each day is different- I’ll never get bored!!
One BAD thing about OBGYN is that we have to do one week of night float. That means we work 6pm-6am for 1 week. If anyone out there works the night shift PLEASE give me tips on how to do it!!! I am really nervous about that. Heaven forbid I fall asleep in the middle of a delivery 😉
I’m staying strong on my healthy train! Yesterday’s breakfast was Banana Bread Oatmeal. I must say, this oatmeal is the bomb.com
It really tastes like banana bread batter!
Banana Bread Oatmeal
- 1/3 cup oats
- 1/2 cup liquid egg whites
- 1/2 banana (frozen)
- 1/8 cup walnuts
- 1 packet stevia or sweetener of your choice
Directions: In a bowl, mix oats and enough water to cover them with about 1/2 inch water on top. Microwave for 1 minute to soften the oats. Next, stir in liquid egg whites until fully incorporated with oats. Microwave 1.5-2 minutes until eggs are no longer liquid but not completely firm. Add in frozen banana, lots of cinnamon and sweetener. Mix fully. The frozen banana will ‘melt’ into the oatmeal and flavor it… amazing. Top with walnuts and enjoy!!
Orientation lasted all day and therefore the wonderful med school catered in breakfast and lunch. Breakfast was of course donuts galore. But there was also coffee, bananas, and clementines. I avoided the donuts and grabbed a clementine and coffee. Crisis averted.
Lunch was pizza. Again, med school is so typical- always ordering donuts and pizza!! I packed my own wrap and an orange. This wrap had kale, spring greens, tomatoes, cabbage, turkey, avocado, and a laughing cow cheese. Perfection! And way better than pizza right?
Once orientation was over I booked it home because I was starving. Last week I bought some Amy’s frozen meals because I’ve always been curious about them- the ingredients look pretty solid. But they are usually so high in calories! If I’m going to eat 400-500 calories I’d rather make it myself because it always ends up being more food 😉 But these new “light and lean” meals only have 250 calories which is more my style. Last night I tried the enchilada. I microwaved it and dumped it on top of a huge bowl of broccoli. The verdict? Pretty good!!! About 2394823948 times better than a lean cuisine or healthy choice meal. I seriously can’t believe I used to eat those. They taste so terrible to me now- the chicken doesn’t even taste like chicken!
Anyways, these Amy’s meals are pretty good! I will probably keep some in my freezer from now on for emergencies or super lazy nights!
Before bed I had a greek yogurt with cinnamon and stevia, topped with pistachios!
I bought 3 huge bags of these halloween pistachios a few months ago because they were on sale for $1!!!! I think they are about to expire but I don’t care- pistachios for $1?? Yes please!! Also- what a great idea for halloween! Healthy and better than getting a pencil or eraser 🙂
Yesterday morning I was up early enough to do a Cathe Xtrain biceps and triceps workout. Man that girl is tough! She lifts 20-30lbs for everything. I’m still hovering around 15lbs. I can go heavier if it’s a chest exercise, but biceps? Nope. I’m workin on it!
This morning I spent some quality time on my treadmill reading about prenatal check-ups. I want to look like I at least know something on my first day of clinic!
I hope you all have a wonderful day and stay dry! It’s pouring down rain here.
Have you tried Amy’s meals? Do you have any frozen meals you like?
Do you lift heavy weights? How heavy are we talking?
