I cannot believe it is the week before Christmas already!!!! That means that the semester is almost over, I am 1 week away from being done with my inpatient pediatrics rotation, and I am 1 semester closer to being a doctor! Yippee!!
Yesterday was my weekend day to go into the hospital. The other medical students and I take turns on which weekend days we get off. So I was up and at em and ready to go pretty early… coffee in hand of course!
I couldn’t put down my coffee so I had to double fist it with my kale and banana smoothie. I’m forgoing my normal oatmeal for breakfast this week because I have an enormous bag of kale I have to use up before the weekend. Looks like green smoothies and kale chips all week!
The day at the hospital went by fairly quickly! I stopped to gobble lunch which was bulgur, sweet potatoes, green onions, carrots, and a killer homemade tahini dressing (recipe to come this week).
I made it home around 5 and threw some (totally cheating) break and bake scones into the oven to bring to work tomorrow. I swear, bringing baked goods to your team is the key to a good grade 😉
Obviously I had to try these scones and after sneaking pieces of dough and then eating one hot out of the oven (ok two), I realized I had had my fair share of sugar and white flour for the day. I guess I had scones for dinner! Whoops…
So the only thing I could think to do to remedy my scone feast was to jump on the treadmill for 20 min HIIT (30 seconds on level 9, 30 seconds walk around room) and 20 minute walking/running. I used my ***amazing*** new polar heart rate monitor. Seriously, I am in love with the watch: it’s so cute and stylish I’ve been wearing it without the chest strap! I also love that I can count on my heart rate and calorie burn being accurate. I’m pretty short and small and so it takes forever for me to burn calories. I NEVER believe what the machines at the gym tell me because they are set for the ‘average’ american who weights 40lbs more than me and is 5 inches taller 😉
For the last 10 minutes on the treadmill, I grabbed some 5lb weights and did 1 minute each of 10 different arm exercises: bicep curls, triceps extensions, overhead presses, punches, etc. It was a great last 10 minutes and I really had to push! I think this would be an easy arm workout to tack onto the end of most other workouts- try it!
It wouldn’t have been a true week before Christmas evening if I didn’t wrap some presents 🙂 I’m going to try to wrap a few each night this week.
How was your Sunday!? What did you do? Any good workout?
Did you do anything holiday’ey?
