On Saturday my amazing boyfriend Kyle asked me to marry him and I said YES!!! It was a whirlwind of a weekend and I think it’s going to take me 2 posts to share it all!
Before I tell you all the juicy details about the proposal, I think I should introduce Kyle a bit more.
Kyle is 3 years older than I am and therefore was already in college when I moved to Indiana my sophomore year in high school. He grew up in a town about 10 minutes from my town and was pretty well known over there, so I had heard of him. His sister is 2 years younger than I am and I knew her. There were also quite a few girls in my school who had a crush on Kyle and so I knew who he was. I would occasionally see him at parties because his best friend had a brother my age. But none of that mattered because we never really talked until I went to Butler in Indianapolis for college.
In the fall of my freshman year, Kyle called me one day to tell me he was coming to Indianapolis for the weekend. I didn’t really understand why he was calling me, but I was excited to see him that weekend. We hung out and became friends but didn’t go on our first date until Easter weekend of 2007- my freshman year.
I remember how nervous I was to hang out with him one on one for the night. I thought he was the coolest guy ever and I had a crush on him immediately. Shortly after our first date, we were boyfriend/girlfriend but kept the relationship pretty casual.
I stayed in Indianapolis that summer to take Organic Chemistry and he came up to visit me almost every weekend.
Fall semester of 2008, I studied abroad in England. Even though I was across the globe, we never went a day without talking.
During my junior and senior year of college, he became close with all my girlfriends and came to visit Butler all the time.
He supported my craziness during applying to medical school.
He was there 100% during my first 2 years of med school when I was a MESS!!! As an orthopedic PA, he taught me the shoulder and knee exam. He let me look in his eyes a million times when I was learning to do an ophthalmic exam. He lets me listen to his heart. He argues with me about physiology and new treatments we’ve read about.
We’ve been in a long distance relationship for all 5 years of being together, but it never feels like we’re far apart.
He loves science as much as I do and teaches me new things every day.
We’ve travelled to New York.
We’ve gone scuba diving in Honduras.
I love his family.
I respect him and look up to him more than anyone else in my life. He makes me a better person. And I can’t wait to be his wife!
Details on the proposal coming tomorrow!
