Yesterday afternoon I walked into Noodles and Co. to meet some friends for lunch. They were surprised to find me covered from head to toe in blue, pink, and yellow. My skin was stained and my clothes were multi-color. I couldn’t wait to tell them all about my colorful experience at the Color Me Rad 5K that morning!
Color Me Rad 5K is a magical frolic through clouds of color that leaves you looking like a rainbow at the end. The race benefits a different charity in each city, with Indianapolis’ charity being Special Olympics Indiana. Those two facts were all I needed to sign up right away. ***Warning: the following post contains an inordinate amount of pictures. If you don’t care about the race, just scroll to the bottom because the last pictures are the coolest 🙂
The day before the race, I headed over to the Indiana State Fairgrounds to pick up my race packet. The guys in charge were nice enough to hook me up with a sweet hoodie and a bag full of color bombs! (The color is actually just dyed cornstarch).
Check out my swag!!
Saturday morning I woke up and showered before dressing in my best whites. The cleaner you are before this race begins, the better right? That way, you get the best before and after pictures 😉
And of course a picture with the Color Me Rad sunglasses. (Absolutely necessary to keep the color out of your eyes).
I headed over with my boyfriend Kyle and friend Sara.
The race was packed! Everyone in white, huddled together at the start line. It was actually pretty cold yesterday- especially with the wind blowing, so we couldn’t wait to get started running!
Goosebumps before starting to run! But Kyle was ready to go…
At each kilometer, volunteers on the sidelines chucked color at us as we ran through. They even had paint-guns squirting color at the runners. As we ran we could see a cloud of pink or blue in the distance, and knew what was coming up. It made it so fun and made the race go by in no time at all!
We definitely ran at a comfortable pace- no one on the course was trying to set a PR that’s for sure. It was more about getting out on a Saturday morning and having fun.
After the race was over, each wave of runners gathered in a cluster to get ready for the color toss. I think this had to have been the best part. An explosion of color took over the crowd!
I would highly recommend doing this race when it comes to your city. You can find the next locations at www.colormerad.com.
Thanks Color Me Rad for the best Saturday morning I’ve had in a long time!
