Yesterday was my last day of orientation and today is my first day in the hospital! Woo! I am super excited to start seeing patients and applying everything I’ve spent 2 years learning.
Yesterday was another busy day, so I rolled out of bed at 5 to get in a quick workout.
I tried a new workout that I really liked. I think it will be a great total body workout to use when you’re in a hurry or when you don’t feel like going to the gym. Here it is:
The 5-4-3-2-1 Workout from FitFabCities.com!
5 minutes- Run at a quick pace. If you’re at home, run away from your house for 2.5 min, turn around, and come back.
4 minutes- Alternate 1 minute walking lunges and 1 minute mountain climbers 2 times
3 minutes- 10 push ups, 10 triceps dips, rest, repeat for 3 minutes
2 minutes- 30 seconds squats, 30 seconds jump squats 2 times
1 minute- plank
In total, this is 15 minutes. You can do it one time through as a way to get your heart pumping or to finish a workout. You can do it 2 times if you want a good total body workout but are pressed for time, and 3 times through for a total 45 minute workout. Not bad right?
Yesterday, I only had time to do it twice, but I definitely worked up a sweat!
I bought a new skirt a few weeks ago, and I’ve been nervous to wear it because it’s kind of intense, but yesterday I went for it! What do you think?
After getting ready for class, I made another yummy smoothie with kale. I love putting kale in my smoothies because it is SO nutritious and I swear you can’t even taste it.
Then, I had such a bummer lunch experience!
I love to buy chicken sausages every now and then because there are a couple really great brands and it changes things up from your usual plain chicken. Coleman Naturals is a great company- look at these quality ingredients!
This week, I bought a flavor that I’ve never tried before. I wanted to make a wrap with collard greens because I’ve heard that collard greens are a good medium for wraps (they are sturdier than lettuce). So I browned the sausage in a pan, cut it in half, and wrapped it up in 2 big collard greens. I packed some cantaloupe on the side and I was super excited about this lunch!
Well, stupid me neglected to notice the Fennel listed in the ingredients list. I really don’t care for fennel at all and I thought the flavor was overwhelming. There were whole fennel seeds in the sausage and after a couple bites, I couldn’t take anymore. 🙁 So sad, my lunch hit the trashcan. I ended up eating half of the protein pancake I had packed as a snack for later, and ate the other half at 5pm.
After school, I had a meeting with the ophthalmology student interest group. I’m very interested in ophthalmology, so I’ve been involved with the group for a while. We met at the Glick Eye Institute, which is a new building on the IU School of Medicine Campus. It is an amazing facility and I think it will become a nationally recognized center for eye care.
Isn’t it cool looking? The statue out front was made by Don Gummer- Meryl Streep’s husband! She actually came to the dedication of the building.
Finally at 7 I made it home and was not in the mood to workout. I actually had a ton of school stuff to do, so I made a yummy salad, and got to work.
Today is going to be super exciting and I can’t wait to write about it!
